Jonelle Ensign, PhD, ABPP

Licensed Psychologist and School Psychologist

I graduated in 2002 from Abilene Christian University (Abilene, TX) with a master of science in school psychology and then in 2009 from Texas Woman’s University with a PhD in school psychology and a specialization in school neuropsychology. I completed my pre- and post-doctoral training with the Fort Worth Independent School District and worked as a school psychologist for the Fort Worth ISD through 2015. With the Fort Worth ISD, I was a member of the autism and neuropsychological assessment teams, I was the director of the specialist level internship, and I supervised master’s and pre-doctoral school psychology interns.

In 2015, a colleague and I opened a private practice in Fort Worth, where we focused on diagnostic assessment for children and adolescents. In 2017, my husband’s job took us to Indiana, where I joined a multi-faceted agency as their assessment psychologist.

My husband’s career opportunities next brought us to Melbourne, FL, where I worked as a school psychologist/suicide risk consultant for the Brevard Public Schools until the end of the 2021-2022 school year.

I am board certified in school psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), and I am licensed as a psychologist in Indiana and Florida and as a school psychologist in Florida. I am also contracted to provide services for Family Partnerships of Central Florida (formerly Brevard Family Partnership) and the Devereux School, and I am a member of the medical staff at Palm Point Behavioral Health.

Personally, I love traveling, sipping a good cup of coffee, working up a sweat at CrossFit, and soaking up the sunshine with my family.

What is a school psychologist?

School psychologists receive a specialized graduate education that includes coursework and practical experiences relevant to both psychology and education. As a result, school psychologists are uniquely qualified to support students’ ability to learn and teachers’ ability to teach. They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.

All children and youth can face problems from time to time related to learning; social relationships; making difficult decisions; or managing emotions such as feeling depressed, anxious, worried, or isolated. School psychologists help students, families, educators, and members of the community understand and resolve both long-term, chronic problems and short-term issues that students may face. They are a highly skilled and ready resource in the effort to ensure that all children and youth thrive in school, at home, and in life. (NASP)

What does it mean to be board certified?

Board certification assures the public and the profession that the School Psychology Specialist has successfully completed a high level of education, training, and experience. Written and oral examinations provide evidence of the competencies required to provide quality services in School Psychology. Board certification is an advanced level of practice including doctoral and/or post-doctoral preparation with three or more years of qualifying experience. (ABPP) Board certification is the highest level of advanced post-license certification and provides peace of mind that the provider is highly qualified to provide care.

Let's do this together!

Change is inevitable, but transformation is by conscious choice.
